SFT has more than 650 chapters worldwide at universities, high schools and even elementary schools, in more than 30 countries around the world. With such a broad base of grassroots activists, there is probably someone in your area who can help you start a chapter at your school, connect with your local network of Tibet supporters, or find another way to get involved.
By starting/joining a chapter of Students for a Free Tibet, you can become part of a dynamic, effective and fun network of activists, working for a free Tibet.
2. Pay your $100 yearly chapter dues Since SFT is a grassroots organization devoted to Tibet, we are heavily dependent on financial support from individual members and chapters. Once your fees are paid, we will send you a chapter packet with all sorts of goodies, from stickers and buttons to our newsletter and pamphlets, brochures and information. *Note: If you cannot pay your chapter dues, PLEASE contact us- you may be eligible for a dues waiver!
4. Gain official recognition at your school! Each school has a slightly different system of getting recognized by the Student Activities Office (or Student Affairs Center, Student Government, or whatever name it goes by on each campus). Visit the Student Activities Office and express your interest in making your group an official entity.
5. Organize your first event! Even if you may feel that interest on campus is low, a modestly successful first event is a magical way to boost your chapter's membership. Check out event ideas here.
6. Check out the regional coordinator page to find out who your regional coordinator is! You can contact them to plan an event together or join other events in the region.
And remember, keep in touch with SFT HQ, we are here anytime to help you with your chapter, or answer any questions you may have. You can email us at: chapters@studentsforafreetibet.org or call us at 212.358.0071.
