Step 1: Fill out SFT's chapter registration form and pay your annual Chapter Dues. (To download an invoice, click here). Within two weeks, you will receive a start-up packet including SFT's newsletter, brochures, stickers, pamphlets, etc.
Step 2: Hold your first meeting. The Organizer's Guide contains information on how to prepare for your first meeting. Download it and READ it! It's pretty in depth, but a new, improved one is coming out very soon!
Step 3: Gain official recognition at your school. Each school has a
slightly different system of getting recognized by the Student
Activities Office (or Student Affairs Center, Student Government, or whatever name it goes
by on each campus). Visit the Student Activities Office and express
your interest in making your group an official entity.
Step 4: Organize your first event! Even if you may feel that interest on campus is low, a modestly successful first event is a magical way to boost your chapter's membership. - Screen a Tibetan film (Windhorse, Kundun, Tibet: Cry of the Snowlion, etc.) - Reserve a table in your school's busiest spot and hold a petition signing drive for Tibetan political prisoners. - Invite a guest speaker to talk on Tibet. A list of recommended speakers is available at www.studentsforafreetibet.org/speakers.
