Tsering Yangchen – Students for a Free Tibet
Transforming our world
through nonviolent action

In Minnesota, a new generation of activists is taking bold steps to fight for Tibet’s freedom. Originally founded in the early 2010s, SFT Minnesota was re-established in August 2023 after SFT’s Cross-Movement Action Camp in California. Since then, the chapter has rapidly grown, providing Tibetan youth and allies with a platform to advocate, lead, and mobilize for Tibet.

SFT Minnesota has wasted no time in bringing Tibet to the forefront of political conversations in Minnesota. Their milestones over the past year include:

Most recently, SFT Minnesota, SFT Wisconsin, and SFT Chicago joined forces to host a Midwest Meet-Up, an event designed to connect young Tibetan activists, develop new skills, and coordinate regional efforts. With over 30 participants, the workshop reinvigorated a network of young leaders ready to take action.

SFT Minnesota operates on a yearly term basis, and this year’s board is halfway through their leadership cycle. Their focus remains on community-building, digital advocacy, and youth empowerment. Follow them at @sftminnesota to stay updated on their latest actions, and watch the live conversation with SFT Minnesota chapter leaders.

Help us create more stories like this. SFT Minnesota’s journey proves that when youth are given the tools to lead, they can create real change. Your support helps us train, mobilize, and empower more young activists.
