SFT published a joint report with Hong Kong Democracy Council called “Exporting Repression: Attacks on Protesters During Xi Jinping’s Visit to San Francisco in November 2023.” This report documents and analyzes 34 cases of assault, harassment, and intimidation and provides clear recommendations for governments and institutions on confronting the CCP’s intensifying transnational repression. Our report was heavily featured in the Washington Post’s investigation into China’s role in the attacks, and on the 75th anniversary of the PRC, SFT and HKDC led a coalition of 50+ human rights NGOs calling out China’s repression with SFT chapters leading protests outside Chinese embassies to highlight transnational repression.
Building on over a year of firsthand experience confronting transnational repression, SFT collaborated with the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists on a landmark global exposé, published across major outlets in over 10 countries, revealing how the CCP intimidates, harasses, and assaults Tibetan activists abroad to silence dissent and muffle conversation on Tibet worldwide. When revered Tibetan abbot Tulku Hungkar Dorjee mysteriously died in Chinese detention in Vietnam, SFT’s grassroots network leapt into action, demanding answers at Vietnamese embassies across the globe.
